This year the Sherwood Community Festival will be celebrating its 13th year. The Sherwood Community Street Festival originated in 1995 when the local Vet at the time, Dr Malcolm Mackenzie suggested the idea at a local Traders' Dinner. He went for a walk up Sherwood Road asking for involvement from the local businesses and community members. The following people made up the original committee making the festival possible in 1995. The Bank of Queensland was our first major sponsor and was made possible by Tony Rimon, Margaret Smith from the Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre, Barry Andrews from South Western Stationery Supplies, Ross Gardner from Gardners Insurance Brokers, Robyn McKay from Sunflower Healthfood Shop, Lynne Ball from Sherwood Surgery, Rev Bruce Slygo and John Brown from St. Matthews Anglican Church, and Rev Tim Jaensch from St John's Lutheran Church, Corinda. The following year the Uniting Church became involved represented by our current Technical Advisor Frank Thomson.
The festival provided a focal point for the community and an opportunity to come together in a spirit of hope
